Since our launch in March 2011, we’ve grown immensely thanks to you. Your unwavering loyalty, honest feedback, and gracious words have propelled ELIXHER forward into an even bigger and better 2012.

I created ELIXHER out of a void I witnessed. As a Black queer woman and journalist, I noticed the lack of images and stories that spoke to my community and my experience. I’m proud to say that by sharing your stories in our columns like “InspiHERed By” which spotlights phenomenal women in the Black queer community and “Our Family” which celebrates two-mommy families, you have brought the world closer to recognizing our magic and multifacetedness.

Empowering. Affirming. Authentic.

At the core of ELIXHER is content that tells our truths and elevates our spirits. Articles like “Bed-Stuy Pride: Celebrating Self And Community” and “Party People: Four Promoters Cater To The Black Queer Community” highlighted our efforts to create safe spaces for queer folks of color.

ELIXHER got the chance to sit down with Saj Golde, star of the hit reality series on Showtime, The Real L Word, for an in-depth interview. In “The Real Saj Golde: The Reality Star Like You’ve Never Seen Her,” we also chatted with her girlfriend Chanel about how Black lesbians are depicted on-screen.

Our piece “Lesbian Sex For Dummies” took a candid look at debunking myths about intimacy between women while “Porn For The People: Revolutionizing The Way We Look At Queer Brown Bodies” explored the porn industry’s marginalization and exploitation of queer brown people.

ELIXHER has also had the opportunity to connect with amazing women like Pariah stars Adepero Oduye and Kim Wayans, trans advocate Janet Mock, America’s Next Top Model’s Isis King, trans advocate Laverne Cox and many more.
