Winning or Wait a Minute? Trina Braxton Might Bat for the Other Team
By Glennisha Morgan
The Braxton family recently visited the Arsenio Hall Show. Toni, Towanda, Trina, Traci and Evelyn Braxton sat down with the host and immediately started discussing relationships. After Hall attempted to get Towanda to divulge information on her relationship with Kordell Stewart, he turned the tables and began inquiring about Trina’s relationship with her husband Gabe. Trina then stated if things don’t work out between she and Gabe, she would possibly date women.
“Right now the thing we’re concentrating on, that’s being good parents. But if this relationship doesn’t work, I think I’m going to bat for the other team because I can’t take it,” Trina explained.
Hall chimed in insinuating that the singer and reality TV star meant she might “hook up” with a woman. Trina replied, “There’s nothing wrong with being tri-sexual. You can try things.” She then apologized because her mother was present.
While everyone has a right to explore their options and sexuality can be fluid, Trina’s statement could be problematic because it implies that being bisexual, lesbian, queer, etc. is a choice. Also, the fact that she apologized for admitting a possible desire reinforces the stigmatization of same-sex relationships.

I agree with you. I’m really tired of straight women who look at our relationships as second. Then, when they really think about it they run the other direction specifically, black women. I think someone like you should send an email to Hall Show and tell them you disapproval or the Braxton show.
