Laverne Cox Gets Nominated for Emmy, Makes History (Again!)
Actress Laverne Cox is continuing to blaze trails! The transgender actress and star of Orange Is the New Black has been nominated for an Emmy in the “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series” category. In her groundbreaking role, Cox plays Sophia Burset, an inmate who committed credit card fraud while trying to fund her gender affirmation surgery. The breakout star makes history today as the first transgender actress to be nominated for an Emmy Award. Back in May, Cox became the first openly trans person to grace the cover of TIME magazine.
