Jasika Nicole is Ready for “Scandal”

When Fringe ended, we were sad to be missing out on our weekly Jasika Nicole. But now the out actress has been cast in a top secret role on ABC’s Scandal. As of now it looks like it’s just for one episode, but hopefully she’ll stick around longer. The show’s creator Shonda Rhimes tweeted her own excitement about the news. Jasika told AfterEllen exclusively how excited she is about the news. “I can’t stress the enormity of what it feels like to have two of the most important people involved in a television show, the executive producer and the star, be smart, capable, generous black women,” Jasika said.

Black Transmen Launches Female Group at 2nd Annual Advocacy Conference

The Rev. Carmarion D. Anderson is a trans woman known for many things in Dallas: minister, mom and activist.

Anderson grew up in Dallas in a strict Pentecostal family. She had a calling to the ministry at a young age, but she said her gender identity prevented her from ministering at the church she grew up in when she came out as trans to her family at 16.

“It made me a stronger person,” she said. “I knew that [the church] was my life, my passion, but I could no longer not be myself.”

Well here’s what we all agree here at QWOC Media Wire: Ignoring bisexual women of color for women’s history month isn’t going to cut it.

Florida’s First African-American Woman Lieutenant Governor Resigns

Corruption demolishes another burgeoning political career. Jennifer Carroll, Florida’s first African-American female lieutenant governor, resigned from the position Wednesday amid accusations of involvement in an illegal gambling operation.
This isn’t the first scandal Carroll is involved in. Last summer she was accused of being in “compromising positions” with a woman staffer. She responded to the accusations by juxtaposing herself against women who identify as lesbians.

“It’s not just one person you’re attacking. It’s an entire family,” she said. “My husband doesn’t want to hear that. He knows the type of woman I am. I mean, my kids know the type of woman I am … Usually black women that look like me don’t engage in relationships like that.”
